School-Age Program & Expanded Learning

School-Age Program

Even after the school day ends, children thrive when they’re engaged in a comfortable, stimulating environment. The Bearcat Discovery Center’s Before & After School Program is designed to support the interests and abilities of K–8 students enrolled in the Union Hill School District.

Our program provides students with an afternoon snack, opportunities for outdoor play, creative exploration, and social interaction. Children can enjoy art projects, puzzles, building activities, and other hands-on experiences that inspire imagination and collaboration.

Teachers plan daily activities that encourage curiosity and growth in a child-centered setting. Examples include art inspired by children’s literature, puppet shows, cooking projects, geode exploration, and physical games.

We also understand the importance of supporting academic success. Students have dedicated time and space for homework each day. Our staff encourages every child to complete part of their homework while at Bearcat Discovery and to review it with their parents at home.

Our school-age program offers subsidized and fee-based childcare for children in K-8th grade from 6:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

State Subsidized Child Care is a free or reduced-cost program based on family size and income. This option is for families that are working, in school, incapacitated, or seeking employment.  Families may receive up to 10 or 11 hours of childcare services based on the parents’ documented need.

Fee-Based Child Care has no income requirements. Families may receive up to 11 hours of childcare services per day, five days per week.

Expanded Learning (ELOP)

In addition to daily care through the Bearcat Discovery Center School-Age Program, TK-8th grade students have the opportunity to participate in the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP). This program offers engaging, hands-on classes designed to inspire curiosity, build skills, and nurture creativity beyond the regular school day.

ELOP classes include enriching activities such as Maker’s Space, Garden Club, Lego Club, Games, Art, Music, Mountain Bike Club, Homework Intervention, Music & Movement, Drama, and beginner Sports Camps.

Together, the Bearcat Discovery Center and ELOP provide a well-rounded experience that supports students academically, socially, and emotionally—helping them learn, explore, and grow in a safe and encouraging environment.
