School-Age Program
Even when school is out for the day, children need to be engaged in a comfortable, yet stimulating, childcare environment. The Bearcat Discovery Center School-Age Program is designed to reflect the interests and capabilities of children in grades K-8 who are enrolled in the Union Hill School District.
During our Before and After-School Program, we provide children with time to play outdoors, interact with friends, explore creative arts, work puzzles, construct various manipulative toys and blocks, and have an after-school snack.
Teachers provide children with daily activities to help stimulate their growth in a child-centered environment. Examples of daily engagement include art projects based on children’s literature, puppet shows, cooking, exploring geodes, and participating in physical activity.
In addition, the staff at the Bearcat Discovery Center recognizes that children need a dedicated space, time, and support for their daily homework assignments, and every effort will be made to provide children with the time and space that they need. Children are asked to work on at least one part of their homework while at Bearcats and then to have their parents review their homework assignments with them when at home.
Goals for our children include:
- To help children learn to live a successful life.
- To provide a program that allows children to develop in the areas of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.
- To develop a positive self-concept through social interactions that involve cooperation, conflict resolution, and relationship building.
Our school-age program offers subsidized and fee-based childcare for children K-8th grade. We offer Before and After School Care from 6:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m..
State Subsidized Child Care is a free or reduced cost program based on family size and income. This option is for families that are working, in school, incapacitated, or seeking employment. Families may receive up to 10 or 11 hours of childcare services based on the parent’s documented need.
Fee-Based Child Care has no income requirements. Families may receive up to 11 hours of childcare services per day, five days per week.
